The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of YMCA Purdy's Wharf Child Care Centre, the Inclusion Coordinator is accountable for fostering an inclusive, and supportive environment where all children can thrive.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with children, educators, families, specialists, leadership and community members
- Collaborate with each child’s support team to create strategies tailored to each child’s strengths and needs.
- Re-evaluate strategies as necessary to ensure appropriate changes are made as a child’s needs change overtime
- Connect families to outside agencies to build support networks and ensure open communication
- Provide families and educators with resources when needed
- Observe and assess the progress of all children, and providing supports so that each child’s needs are met
- Advocate for a culture of acceptance, equity and belonging among children, staff and families at the YMCA Purdy's Wharf Child Care Centre
- Ensure all children can participate in activities along side their peers
- Ensure compliance with Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Licensing Standards, YMCA Canada Child Safeguarding and Playing to Learn requirements regarding inclusion and accessibility
- Support educators and families in addressing challenging behaviours and creating Individual Program Plans tailored to each child’s unique needs
- Provide guidance on de-escalation strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
- Keep up to date with Professional Development requirements including and not limited to inclusive practices
Qualifications & Skills
- Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent and NS Classification; minimum Level 2 required
- Perficient written and verbal communication skills
- Ensuring the distribution of meeting minutes both electronically and by paper
- Organization in with filing, scheduling meetings and classroom binders
- Minimum of 1-2 years of leadership experience or equivalent
- Strong working knowledge and experience in Early Learning, Child/Youth Development, Inclusion and Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Regulations
- Maintain current first aid and CPR certification
- Maintain a clean Criminal Record Check which includes a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Provide and maintain an up-to-date Child Abuse Registry Check
- Attend Child Abuse Protocol Training and take YMCA’s online Child Abuse Training

Conditions of Employment
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
- Completion of YMCA’s Child Safety & Protection Orientation within first week of employment
- Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
• Valid First Aid and CPR certificate if required for the role
- Clear Child Abuse Register Check
