WAGE RANGE: $18.00-$19.40/hour
JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking an experienced dynamic, innovative, food-loving individual who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to work as a Cook at its St Paul Opportunity Center location.
Must have at least one year of high volume/high quantity cooking experience in a commercial kitchen
Under the direction of the Lead Cook or Food Service Supervisor, this position is responsible for assisting in all phases of kitchen and dining room work. These areas include food preparation, meal planning, inventory, food storage and preparation, cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room and supervision of volunteers.
The position includes the ability to interact and provide good customer service to Catholic Charities clients and volunteers, and maintain a good working relationship with shelter, housing and program staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares meals of the day – Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
- Must be able to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
- Supervise and train volunteers and clients, as needed.
- Assists in the responsibility of kitchen maintenance, security of equipment, health and safety standards and procedures in accordance with health department standards and procedures.
- Assists in stocking of food supplies, including stocking and rotating of food in all storage areas.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room area.
- With supervision, assists in the control of inventory of all on-site food supplies to be used and assist in the ordering of all food items, supplies and paper products.
- Driving of personal vehicle and/or agency van may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE:
- High school graduate or equivalent required; Culinary Arts degree preferred.
- Must have basic computer literacy
- One year of food preparation experience in large volume kitchen required.
- Must have ServSafe Food Manager Certification or must complete certification within 90 days of employment
- Ability to work with diverse and/or low income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.
