We are looking for a communications specialist to play an integral part in supporting our mission. This organization is based in Chicago. This is a Full Time, Remote (Onsite as needed; must be based in Chicago, IL), Permanent opportunity.

SCHEDULE: 9:00 am- 5:00 pm (40 Hours/week)
DURATION: Permanent
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 based on education and experience

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for executing communications strategies across social media, email, and digital content platforms. This role includes maintaining the organization's online and editorial presence, monitoring performance metrics, creating graphic content, capturing photo and video content, and supporting internal meetings. The ideal candidate is a dynamic communicator with strong organizational skills, an eye for design, and a collaborative spirit.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- 2-3 years of experience in communications, social media management, or content creation (nonprofit experience is a plus).
- Proficiency in social media platforms and MailChimp (experience with metrics tracking and analytics is highly desirable).
- Basic graphic design skills (experience with Canva or similar software).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects independently.
How You Will Spend Your Day:
Content Calendar Management & Creation – 40%
- Manage and maintain the editorial and social media calendars, ensuring timely and consistent content flow across channels.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with ongoing initiatives, campaigns, and events.
- Capture and create photo/video content at events (using smartphone).
Graphic Design – 25%
- Design simple graphics for social media, editorial, and event content using Canva or similar tools.
- Ensure all visuals adhere to the organization's brand guidelines and messaging.
Social Media Management – 10%
- Manage and update Organizations social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) to enhance engagement and visibility.
- Develop, schedule, and publish posts aligned with organizational goals.
Event/Activities Calendar Management – 10%
- Keep the organizational events calendar up to date, including both internal and public-facing activities.
Special Events Support – 10%
- Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of special events, including the creation of promotional materials.
Metrics and Analytics – 5%
- Monitor and analyze the performance of social media and email communications using platforms like MailChimp.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on data to improve engagement and content strategy.
