The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President of Health, Fitness, & Aquatics, this position plays an essential role in ensuring our YMCA members and participants enjoy a comfortable, clean, and positive experience while enjoying our facilities at the John W. Lindsay and Community YMCA. This position ensures both facilities meet the highest standards of building cleanliness and safety in all program and public areas. Through collaboration with the Community Y Program Director and VP of HFA, this position will be responsible for scheduling, budgeting, staff/volunteer supervision, onboarding, and procurement of supplies for both facilities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure facility cleanliness and safety quality standards are met and maintained. Maintain a clean and clutter-free environment in public and program areas of the facility, including fitness centers, change/washrooms, lobbies, offices, aquatics area, rental spaces, and outside parameters of the buildings.
- Responsible for all room rentals set up, take down and cleanliness.
- Ordering and procurement of all cleaning and changeroom supplies. Ensure tracking mechanisms in place for all inventory purposes to receive and store all supplies and ensure proper availability of supplies.
- Responsible for proper planning and maintenance of departmental budgets.
- Utilizing inclusive practices, recruit, onboard, and manage a team of diverse staff by establishing performance expectations and goals, and providing regular feedback, coaching, and performance management evaluations.
- Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to deepen working knowledge of staff and ensure a high level of inclusive, culturally competent service performance.
- Develop tools and practices for staff’s ease of access to information and training to ensure cleanliness & safety quality standards are met.
- Address conflicts and interpersonal issues within the team in a constructive and timely manner - facilitating difficult conversations, mediating disputes, progressive discipline, and finding mutually acceptable solutions to conflicts.
- Lead, or participate in, workplace investigations and conflict resolution, ensuring the environment is free from harassment, discrimination, and bullying.
- Ensure team adherence to YMCA policies, procedures, and code of conduct, promoting a culture of integrity and accountability.
- Model and promote inclusive leadership, creating and enhancing an inclusive, diverse, and equitable working environment and practices
- Foster a positive employee experience free from systemic barriers and harm, while consistently focusing on process improvement.
- Assist in the overall cleanliness and sanitation of both facilities when required, including garbage removal, dusting, sweeping, mopping floors, toilets, windows, vacuuming, disinfecting and replenishing supplies in washroom/locker rooms.
- Perform laundry related duties when required, including collection of towels, loading, and unloading of laundry machines, folding towels, and replenishing towels in adult locker rooms.
- Responsible for assisting with one duty manager shift per week at the John W. Lindsay YMCA location.
- Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, industry standards, and child safeguarding processes in support of provision of a safe environment for all participants, visitors, staff, and volunteers. Including: sign-in processes, code response, surveillance, incident reporting, WHMIS, and safe work practices.
- Responsible for scheduling all facility staff including fill in support when gap in operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3-5 years leading teams in cleaning environment required
- 3-5 Years cleaning experience required
- Strong working knowledge and certification in WHMIS or GHS
- Proven background in cleaning support to multi-program facility (i.e. fitness, aquatics, etc.) an asset
- Strong work ethic and flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends
- Dedication to safety and quality commitment
- Able to work with minimum supervision
- Able to handle multiple, competing tasks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Conditions of Employment
- Clear Child Abuse Register Check
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
- Completion of YMCA’s Child Safety & Protection Orientation within first week of employment
- Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificate if required for the role
