LSF is seeking a talented Preschool Nutrition Coordinator who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.
Purpose and Impact:
Plans, implements, coordinates, and monitors Head Start nutrition services and food service programs and activities. Ensures compliance with HS Performance Standards, USDA Child Care Food Program, childcare licensing, and HS/EHS goals and objectives. Coordinates assigned activities with other Head Start service areas and with outside agencies and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the HS/EHS Program. Participates in the HS/EHS Quality Assurance efforts.
Essential Functions:
- Implement all requirements regarding nutritional services, including but not limited to: Head Start Performance Standards, CCFP guidelines, and state and local licensing regulations.
- Evaluate the needs of children as it pertains to nutrition, including the needs of children with special dietary needs and accommodations.
- Work in collaboration with families, program staff, the Statewide Program Dietitian, and food vendors to ensure development of specialized menus tailored for children with unique dietary requirements
- Maintain accurate USDA CCFP paperwork, including but not limited to monthly meal records, attendance records, enrollment rosters, trainings records, and Site Review records.
- Prepare and submit timely USDA CCFP monthly claim for reimbursement to the Statewide Director of Nutrition.
- Collaborate with vendors to manage meal orders, address supply requests, resolve food shortages, and accommodate special requests for field trip lunches.
- Conduct site visits to observe classroom meal times and kitchen operations, and fulfill USDA CCFP mandated site reviews.
- Collaborate with service area managers and the Statewide Program Dietitian to facilitate parent trainings on diverse nutrition topics, aiding them in effectively managing the nutritional needs of their children and families.
- Coordinate and deliver trainings and technical assistance to staff in child nutrition, USDA required trainings, and food safety and sanitation.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required, including USDA CCFP State trainings.
- Attend Health Services Advisory meetings and report on status of program’s nutritional services, as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a standard office environment, child care center environments, visit high production food service kitchens, and come in contact with program staff and the public.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education:
BA/BS Degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Home Economics, Health Services Management or closely related field.
Experience: Two years increasingly responsible experience in nutrition, health, and food services. Head Start experience preferred.
Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area.
Also required: Certification in First Aid and CPR within six months of the date assigned to this position; and successful completion of a Level II background screening, local criminal record check and drug screening prior to hiring. Position requires a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of dietetics or nutrition in a community-based setting; nutritional resources and programs.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Knowledge of principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Knowledge of computers and information management systems;
- Ability to communicate nutritional health related information in a manner easily understood by parents; work with diverse community, student, and staff groups.
- Ability to establish, develop and maintain community partners.
- Ability to establish and maintain a record keeping system.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing using correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail are required and the candidate must be able to meet designated deadlines.
Other: Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.
