Reporting to the Executive Director, the Philanthropy Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of prospects and donors to increase individual support of Norwich Free Academy. The Philanthropy Officer will develop qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and build lasting relationships within the alumni and donor community. The Philanthropy Officer promotes a positive culture of philanthropy and contributes to annual and long-range fundraising goals.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Manage a prospect portfolio of 100 prospects rated at $5,000+. Create and implement individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each. Spend, at minimum, 75% of time engaged in direct relationship development and movement through the donor continuum.
Execute a systematic approach to qualifying new donors to determine their interest in and capacity for support. Determine areas of interest and link them to established fundraising priorities; implement written strategies that lead to major gift closure.
Create and execute annual strategy for reunion classes. Work with alumni gift committee and conduct individual solicitations to ensure campaign success.
Achieve annual activity and outcome goals, including number of personal visits, major gift proposals submitted, and major gifts closed.
Collaborate with donors, volunteers, and campus leaders to identify new prospects.
Partner with the Foundation team to facilitate appropriate acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship of gift commitments.
Keep detailed records of strategies, steps, and progress of portfolio relationships using the NXT database.
Attend on and off-campus events as needed to support portfolio cultivation and solicitation.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must be highly organized and have strong communication skills. Proficiency in Windows-based software like Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge is required. A bachelor’s degree with three to five years experience in development, preferably within an independent school or college/university, and a demonstrated ability to personally solicit high-end annual and major gifts.
