Position Summary
Responsible for the quality and control of the Accounting Department work products, accounting processes and procedures; including, monthly and year-end closing processes, quality review of reconciliations and journal entries, cash forecasting; analyzing trend reports, and other relevant accounting responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage monthly and year-end closing procedures to ensure timely and accurate close, including, but not limited to;
- Manage the closing checklist and communications,
- Review and approve cost allocations,
- Review and approve journal entries,
- Review and approve reconciliations, and
- Prepare the Trial Balance and associated analysis.
- Manage Financial Staff Accountants, including; processes, procedures, and compliance with both internal and external deadlines.
- Oversee and make recommendations for policy and procedures updates.
- Prepare, processes and oversee banking activities, such as; positive pay, stop payments, voided checks, line of credit: and cash related processes and procedures including; documents, and related work-papers.
- Review Agency financial and trend reports, budgets and assist management in departmental compliance.
- Assist with managing tax document preparation, including but not limited to; 1099s and Census reports.
- Assist with the preparation and support for financial data and reports used by Executive Management, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Trustees, as well as external Community Partners.
- Assist the grant accounting staff as needed.
- Protect all confidential information, company property and electronic data. Comply with safety rules.
- Other related duties as directed and deemed appropriate to position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of GAAP, standard and fund accounting principles, methods, and applications.
- Display critical thinking as related to overall accounting principles.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
- Knowledge and understanding of controls procedures.
- Maintain the highest degree of integrity, and detail oriented.
- Proficiency of computers including Microsoft Excel (advanced level required) and Microsoft Office.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication, as well as management and mentoring skills.
- Sound judgment, ability to work autonomously, prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, Master’s degree a plus.
- Minimum of five or more years of accounting leadership experience required.
- This is a full-time, in-office position.
- Flexible schedule to work after hours and weekends, as necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily works in office environment, but will also work throughout the agency and off-site.
- Ability to communicate with donors, volunteers, board members, and co-workers.
- Ability to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to continuously sit and/or stand.
