Student Worker - Social Impact and Community Based Organization Development Admissions Intern

Purpose/Objective of the Role:
This in an internship opportunity for first-generation students through the Bishop Elevate Internship Program. Learn more about the program at: https://bit.ly/BishopElevateInternships. This position will be responsible for assisting me with developing and sustaining relationships with Community Based Organizations and their students (i.e., I Know I Can, TRIO, Gear Up etc.) as well as prospective students who identify as first-gen.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Assist with organization CBO visit days to OWU, Outreach (call/email/text) prospective students who are affiliated with CBO's/First Gen for follow up from campus visits or general outreach, Participate on student panels, Travel with me locally(Columbus Area), to attend high school presentations, fairs and other special events which involve meeting with prospective OWU students and their families, Assist with various communications such as writing congratulatory notes to admitted students, scholarship winners etc.
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, a desire to learn, take initiative and willingness to share innovative ideas that will help foster great outcomes, good critical thinking skills, working knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, and other social media platforms, majoring and/or has taken courses in Social Sciences, Communication, Education.

This internship will foster growth by providing the student with a greater understanding of OWU’s Admissions departmental values of social impact, collaboration, and innovation, to develop long-lasting relationships with first-gen families and Community Based Organizations who support historically underserved student populations. Skills learned: Interpersonal communication skills, Relationship building and collaborative work, Increase confidence in verbal communication skills, gain an enhanced understanding of networking and its outcomes, develop more efficient, effective, ways to engage individuals/groups when developing relationships.
